History The federal electoral district (Canada), riding was created when the old riding of Hamilton (electoral district), Hamilton was split in 1903. Hamilton West is a suburb in western Hamilton in New Zealand. Hamilton Lake (a.k.a. Lake Rotoroa) is located to the west. Hamilton West is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate. It has been held by Tama Potaka MP of the National Party since the 2022 by-election. Hamilton West is regarded as a bellwether seat. In 17 of the 18 general elections since the electorate's creation, the party that has won the plurality of seats nationally has won Hamilton West. The sole exception was in 1993, when Labour won the electorate but National won the plurality of the seats. Population centres Through an amendment in the Electoral Act in 1965, the number of electorates in the South Island was fixed at 25, an increase of one since the 1962 electoral redistribution. Hamilton West and Earnock is one of the 20 electoral wards of South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, the ward elects four councillors using the single transferable vote electoral system and covers an area with a population of 18,503 people. The ward was previously a Labour stronghold with the party holding half of the seats between 2007 and 2017. However, it has since become a Scottish National Party (SNP) stronghold with the party holding half of the seats since a by-election win in 2011. Rutherglen and Hamilton West is a burgh constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which was created for the 2005 general election. It covers almost all of the former constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen and most of the former constituency of Hamilton South, and it elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. Hamilton Maxwell West Santana (born 16 October 1977) is a retired Nicaraguan footballer. Club career West started his career at Masachapa and moved abroad to join El Salvadorans ADET on loan in 1998 and then moved to Costa Rican side AD Guanacasteca in summer 1999 to play alongside compatriot Danny Téllez.
